Welcome back, folks! I trust your week went swimmingly! Welcome to my blog for: Week of 21 Sep — 27 Sep.

Hey! That’s me!

What did you do this past week?

This past week was insanely busy! For this class, I started working on frontend for our project. I was relieved to see our project proposal was approved. Our site will provide information for urban farmers.

Outside of class, I virtually attended the FoCS Career Brunch and the CNS Career Fair. Brazen works pretty well (insane lines), and the career fair sessions via Handshake also went smoothly. It’s still very exhausting emotionally, but at least you don’t have to run around between booths like a doofus. I also attended a theory seminar about randomized query complexity. Big O notation never goes away.

What’s in your way?

We have much to do for our static website a.k.a. for phase 1. From frontend to backend to containerization, to writing user stories for the other group, there is so much to do!

I’m worried about the time crunch over the next few days. There’s a lot of little tasks I have to complete before Wednesday. The worst part is, I didn’t even slack off! This is my weekly workload I suppose. At least I’m getting paid.

What will you do next week?

I will hopefully make a presentable user interface for our static website, with pretty colors and legible sans-serif typefaces! Outside of this class, I have two problem sets due, and an essay for my “Space Opera” class.

What was your experience of types, object models, and iterators? (this question will vary, week to week)

Types in Python are confusing in the sense that they are stealthy! I also learned more about object models — I haven’t done too much OOP in Python, mostly having used the language for math and science purposes (with some ML). Iterators are easy and wonderful!

What made you happy this week?

My 21st birthday was on Wednesday. My roommate bought a Minion piñata for me. I expected that it would be difficult for me to hit the Minion, but I discovered that I hold an indescribable nascent rage for those wacky yellow guys.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the week would be material-ui. The documentation is really helpful and there’s a huge number of templates, toolbars, icons, etc. I hope to use material design for our website, so I’m grateful for discovering this source for React components.
